Tools for the Vernon She Shed Society

Recently, Kamloops District Men’s Shed was fortunate to receive a donation of tools, especially hand tools, from the Thompson Rivers University School of Trades and Technology. Shed members quickly got to work to sort and organize them, yet despite our ambitions we found ourselves with an over-abundance. However, due to the networking efforts of our shed members and the sense of mutual support between BC sheds, there was soon an opportunity to pay it forward by re-donating some of the tools to the Vernon She-Shed. Vice-President of the Vernon She-Shed, Deb Chursinoff, accepted the tools on behalf of her shed from KDMS board members.

New Shed Location is Up and Running

Kamloops District Men’s Shed has completed its relocation to the Kamloops Seniors Community Centre and the group held the first meeting at the new location on August 22nd. Members worked to move equipment and supplies into the new space and have already put the tools to good use on projects.

The Kamloops District Men’s Shed is Re-Locating

For long term sustainability of KDMS, the shed will be re-locating to within the new Kamloops Seniors Community Centre. Members have been busy preparing the space and planning the move which will occur in early August.

This weekend the men put a fresh coat of paint on the floors. With new paint on the walls and floor the shop is a blank canvas, ready for setup of the tools, workstations, and of course coffee break area.

It has been a very busy few months, with great work completed by the KDMS board and membership, culminating in a space to truly call our own. Having a dedicated shop space opens a world of possibilities for projects and the potential to grow the shed to benefit more men in the community.

Recently, host Rita Wiebe highlighted the Kamloops District Men’s Shed in an episode of Simple Synergy, which will appear on TV and is already available on YouTube. Featured guests included KDMS Director Gerry Hennings and member Chad Nicklas along with several testimonials from other members and their family support.
