Purpose
Purpose
The Kamloops District Men’s Shed (KDMS) is a community-based, non-profit, non-commercial organization whose purpose is to improve health and wellness for men of all ages in the Kamloops District by creating an appropriate physical and social environment (“shed”), and by providing programs with purposeful activities to address well-being challenges faced by men.
Activities
-
Provide a physical space for men to work on community projects, develop personal interests, and avoid social isolation.
-
Engage men in activities that involve informal learning, mentoring, and sharing of knowledge to improve their well-being.
Men engage in activities that utilize their skills and experience such as building garden boxes for local non-profits, selling shed-made items at craft fairs, and participating in team maintenance work for local non-profits. KDMS provides health and safety training for its members so that they are prepared to work safely with shop equipment and materials. Men are organized into project-based teams to promote skill development and new relationships.
-
Provide a sense of purpose by involving men in meaningful projects that serve community charities and non-profit organizations.
-
Provide men with resources on men’s health and other topics that give them opportunities to improve their health and well-being.
